This case report showcases a traumatic avf involving a vertebral artery and internal jugular vein, suggesting endovascular therapy as the treatment of choice.
Traumatic AVFs are rare presentations of vascular trauma and those involving the vertebral artery are even rarer. These develop typically following penetrating neck trauma or iatrogenic injury. With the advent of minimally-invasive interventions, endovascular therapy is the preferred modality of treatment of the AVFs, provided the necessary equipment and expertise are available. Here we report a rare case of traumatic vertebral artery (VA) to internal jugular vein (IJV) AVF treated successfully with a covered stent deployment.
