A hybrid slot microstrip antenna achieves improved bandwidth for X-band frequencies, indicating enhanced performance for radar applications.
In this thesis, an H-U hybrid slot microstrip antenna is designed with a 30 mm × 30 mm × 1.6 mm dielectric plate and optimized impedance matching by an L-shaped probe feed. The symmetric U-shaped slit and H-shaped slit are etched on a rectangular patch to form a composite resonant structure to enhance the bandwidth performance. Simulation results show that the proposed antenna demonstrates excellent impedance matching across the frequency range of 9.46-10.84 GHz, exhibiting broadband characteristics with dual-resonant behavior where the reflection coefficient remains below −10 dB throughout this operational bandwidth. Compared with the traditional rectangular patch antenna, the bandwidth of this antenna has been increased by about three times, which is suitable for broadband wireless communication and radar systems.
