Large amount of digital data that can be transmitted over a broad spectrum of frequency using short-pulses of radio frequency signals with low power consumption is revolutionized by Ultra Wide Band (UWB) wireless communication technology. In this paper a rectangular micro strip patch antenna is designed which works for fixed wireless application with enhanced bandwidth. Defected Ground Structure (DGS) and inverted H-shaped slotting techniques are employed to attain Ultra Wide band. The refection coefficient observed for this proposed antenna is very less, as low as -30 dB. The antenna is Omni directional so can be used for satellite and radar communications. The antenna has two sharp radiating frequencies at 5.4 GHz and 15.6 GHz. The antenna has a bandwidth of 11.5 GHz covering all the frequencies from 10GHz to 16.3 GHz. The overall gain and efficiency observed are 2.7 dB and 75% respectively. Several optimization techniques such as changing the feed dimensions, ground slotting (circular slot) and changing the substrates are practiced in this design. The software used for designing of the elements is ADS (Advanced Designing System) by Agilent Technologies. Antenna measurement setup with Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) MS 2027C is used to validate the return loss values with its simulated results.
