Assessment reveals critical crack length impacts fracture toughness in structural steel, suggesting improved methodologies for evaluating crack resistance.
The full deformation diagrams of steel are investigated with determination of unstable crack growth parameters. To determine the critical crack length, based on the analysis of deformation diagrams under extremely rigid loading and A. Griffiths's statement on the minimum of potential energy, a criterion is proposed, which is verified by testing of 15Х2МФА structural steel. The fracture toughness of the material under study is determined by the critical crack length. Keywords structural steel, crack, unstable growth, fracture toughness, deformation energy zmn@bmstu.ru
