We investigate the chiral restoration and deconfinement phase transitions under an external magnetic field in the frame of a Pauli-Villars regularized Polyakov loop extended Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model. A running Polyakov loop scale parameter <a:math xmlns:a="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><a:msub><a:mi>T</a:mi><a:mn>0</a:mn></a:msub><a:mo stretchy="false">(</a:mo><a:mi>e</a:mi><a:mi>B</a:mi><a:mo stretchy="false">)</a:mo></a:math> is introduced to mimic the reaction of the gluon sector to the presence of magnetic fields. It is found that a decreasing <e:math xmlns:e="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><e:msub><e:mi>T</e:mi><e:mn>0</e:mn></e:msub><e:mo stretchy="false">(</e:mo><e:mi>e</e:mi><e:mi>B</e:mi><e:mo stretchy="false">)</e:mo></e:math> with magnetic fields can realize the inverse magnetic catalysis phenomena of chiral condensates of <i:math xmlns:i="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><i:mi>u</i:mi></i:math> and <k:math xmlns:k="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"><k:mi>d</k:mi></k:math> quarks, increase of Polyakov loop, and the reduction of pseudocritical temperatures of chiral restoration and deconfinement phase transitions.
