The aim of this work was to develop an antimicrobial sponge composed of chitosan, hyaluronic acid, and nano silver particles (AgNPs), which are used in biomedical applications as a hemostatic material for the treatment of wounds infected by drug-resistant bacteria. The sponges were obtained using an approach based on the preparation of polymer solutions in a biocompatible and self-neutralizing solvent, namely, carbonic acid. The resulting sponges were characterized by SEM and FTIR spectroscopy. It was found that the resulting sponges have good water absorption, mechanical properties, and strength. They also show pronounced activity against E. coli and S. aureus.
