Costus speciosus (Koen ex. Retz.) Sm. is a medicinal plant known for its therapeutic properties, prominently attributed to its bioactive constituents like costunolide, diosgenin, eremanthin etc. This study presents a detailed investigation on the quantitative analysis of costunolide in Costus speciosus plants collected from different geographical regions of Chhattisgarh, employing High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) technique. The research methodology involved the crude extraction of metabolites from the rhizome using methanol as solvent followed by HPLC analysis. The results revealed significant variations in the content of costunolide among the collected samples, possibly influenced by environmental factors and genetic variability. Moreover, phytochemical characterization of Costus speciosus extracts was conducted to complement the quantitative analysis. This study contributes to the understanding of the phytochemical profile of Costus speciosus plants in the Chhattisgarh region. The findings help to get the elite plant with significant concentration and hold implications for the standardization and quality control of herbal medicines derived from Costus speciosus, facilitating their utilization in pharmaceutical and therapeutic applications.
