The article is devoted to the analysis of the international legal status of the Caspian Sea in accordance with the Convention of August 12, 2018, which was signed by the leaders of the five Caspian states. The article covers the history of legal regulation of the status of the Caspian Sea, highlights the agreements between the participating states, and touches upon the main provisions of the 2018 Convention, which determine the procedure for the use and regulation of this unique reservoir. The author of the article presents his vision of the prospects for the development of cooperation between the countries of the region based on the adopted regulations and provisions of the convention. Considered the main aspects related to environmental safety, the development of natural resources, transport communications and other issues affecting the cooperation and development of countries adjacent to the Caspian Sea.
