( Eur J Anaesthesiol . 2024;41(2):148–150. doi:10.1097/EJA.0000000000001878) Epidural analgesia is routinely used to help alleviate pain during labor. There are several conditions that must be met to obtain patient consent before a medical procedure (eg, epidural) including the patient's ability to consent, the patient not being under duress, and the patient must have been given sufficient and complete information about the conduct of the procedure, as well as associated risks, benefits, and alternatives. However, this last condition is not always met for labor neuraxial procedures and this carries legal and ethical implications.
