Qualitative study reveals challenges in obtaining informed consent for epidural analgesia during labor induction, highlighting the impact of pain and fatigue on decision-making.
( Anaesthesia 2025;80:1199–1206. doi:10.1111/anae.16637) Women undergoing induction of labor (IOL) frequently choose epidural analgesia (EA) for pain management, yet obtaining valid informed consent in this context presents distinct challenges. Anesthesiologists must meet legal and ethical standards for consent while navigating time pressures, escalating pain, and patient fatigue. This qualitative study explored women’s perceptions of the consent process for EA during IOL, with particular attention to how information was delivered, understood, and acted upon.
