The indiscriminate use of Ginkgo biloba has become common due to its purported therapeutic benefits. However, use without medical guidance can pose serious health risks. Objective: To evaluate the toxicity and potential dangers associated with the uncontrolled consumption of Ginkgo biloba. Methodology: A systematic review was conducted, analyzing 23 scientific articles focusing on the toxicity, adverse effects, and drug interactions of Ginkgo biloba. Results and Discussion: The results indicate that although Ginkgo biloba has antioxidant and neuroprotective properties, its indiscriminate use can lead to significant adverse effects such as cellular toxicity, neurotoxicity, hepatotoxicity, and drug interactions. The variability in the composition of commercial products and the presence of toxic excipients increase the risks. The analysis highlighted the need for strict regulation and quality control to minimize these dangers. Conclusion: The consumption of Ginkgo biloba should be supervised by healthcare professionals to ensure patient safety. It is essential to implement stricter regulations and ensure the quality of products available on the market.
