A recently published book concerning the excavations of the precinct of Mut in Tanis shows pictures, without comment, of the blocks reused in the sacred lake of Mut. It gives the authors an opportunity to offer the detailed historic and artistic informations supplied by those blocks. Classifying them according to epigraphic and stylistic criteria allows us to attribute them to six kings belonging to the 21st, 22nd and 23rd Dynasties, as well as to pharaohs reigning from Tanis at the time of the 25th Dynasty. The blocks bring on numerous informations concerning the cults in Tanis and also the development of the archaïsing trend in art and writing at the time.
