The complexity of the numbering system of the objects kept in the Louvre Museum’s collection of Egyptian Antiquities often leads to wrong references in publications. A practical Guide of the entry registers and inventories recording the items on a chro-nological presentation showes at first sight how complex they are ; but such a Guide will above all make it possible to understand the meaning of numbers noted directly on objects or label, and thus choose which number should be favoured when citing the object in a publication.
