More than half of teens ages 12‐17 said that they see or hear alcohol advertisements while streaming videos, going to the movies, browsing the internet, or watching TV, according to a new study from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The study, published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine Focus this month, shows the importance of monitoring digital alcohol marketing, as well as other marketing of alcohol, to underage youth. Teens are disproportionately affected, as they are on these services more than any other age group. The goal of reducing alcohol use by youth can be assisted by limiting exposure to marketing, the study noted. For the research, the CDC analyzed data from the 2021 YouthStyles survey, administered by Porter Novelli.
