Through simulation calculations, the cooling process of the phase change cold storage device in the carriage of rail vehicles under natural convection conditions was analyzed. The total cooling capacity and cooling time of the round tubes were obtained. Based on the calculation results, it was concluded that round tubes are suitable for use as phase change cold storage devices in emergencies inside the carriage under natural convection conditions. A preliminary structural design for the device was proposed, and the feasibility of the device was analyzed through a comparison of different surface convective heat transfer coefficients.
