The article examines the essence and role of healthcare, the role of healthcare in ensuring the quality and standard of living of the population, various approaches to the definition of the term "healthcare". The authors of the article pay special attention to the study of the structure of the Russian healthcare system, as well as the main authorities and medical institutions that manage the healthcare system. In the course of the research, the article revealed that the structure of the healthcare system has a complex and multilevel form, which includes various forms of medical institutions, control and management bodies of their activities, types and levels of medical care.
