In the field of language studies, a number of investigations have been carried out to investigate the usage of Vietnamese and English curse words independently; however, relatively few examinations have been carried out to assess the similarities and differences between the two. With the purpose of comparing and contrasting swear words in Vietnamese and English from the point of view of comparative discourse analysis, the study has investigated those that are regularly used in Vietnamese and English, taking into consideration the cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds of both Vietnamese and American people. In addition to the commonalities, the findings demonstrated that the ways in which swear words are utilized in different cultures are distinct. Based on the findings of the research, the study makes a contribution to providing a more in-depth understanding of the social practice of swearing, the factors that influence the use of swear words in different cultures, and the strategies that can be utilized to effectively combat the use of swear words in social and cross-cultural communication.
