Abstract The feeding deterrence and larvicidal potential effects of Melletia furrgunia seed powder solvent extract against Plutella xylostella L. larvae were evaluated under laboratory conditions. Cabbage leaves were dipped into a test solution of 0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1.0, 1.2, and 1.4mg/ml (w/v) for 1hr. The result showed that feeding was fully prevented at higher rates of polar solvent extracts. Leaves treated with polar extracts caused higher larval mortality. The highest mortality was recorded from water and acetone extracts. Mortality for neonates and third instars was very high in polar solvent extracts and has much smaller LC₅₀ values. Other extracts have higher LC₅₀ and caused significant larvae kill only at higher rates. In conclusion, polar solvent extracts of M. furrgunia possess significant feeding deterrence and larvicidal effects against P. xylostella.
