Background Platelet storage is generally complicated by deleterious changes, among which reduction of ristocetin-induced platelet aggregation (RIPA) has a poorly understood mechanism. This study aimed to elucidate the mechanistic roles of all the possible players in this process including the status of GPIbα (its platelet expression/total content and ectodomain shedding), VWF levels or its activity, metabolic state and integrin activation.
