A multistate health system created a competency strategy based on a comprehensive conceptualization of competency using the American Nursing Association scope and standards of nursing practice. This approach allows for the broad application of a standard competency assessment tool across diverse nursing specialties and provides a framework for nursing professional development practitioners to implement in their organizations.
