Exploratory research finds that high neuroticism may increase collaborationism while high extraversion decreases it.
In March 2022, Ukraine criminalized collaboration with an aggressor state following the Russian invasion. This study examines the personality traits of convicted collaborationists using psychometric and cognitive-behavioral approaches. The sample included 104 collaborationists and 388 probation officers. Collaborationists showed lower scores on most traits except neuroticism. Logistic regression indicated that high extraversion decreased, while high neuroticism increased the likelihood of collaboration. Sensitivity analysis linked low extraversion, egocentric values, and specific future attitudes to collaborationism. These findings inform strategies for the social reintegration of collaborationists.
