The future sees a move towards highly automated vehicles (HAV). Thus, the aim for many developers is to enhance proficiency by amplifying safety-induced HAV operation. However, there are long-term effects and challenges to overcome. Such as understanding users' manual operation skills/abilities (MOS/A) and automation operation skills/abilities (AOS/A). For example, effects on performance and skills atrophy due to automation-induced complacency, etc. As technology is unruly and prone to error, humans by law must be situationally aware and active participants. Thus, their MOS/A are required to be impeccable. In this paper, the aim is to comprehend human-automation skillfulness (HAS) over long-term interaction. Therefore, we explored knowledge levels from N=20 AV experts. As a result, we relate transformative views on long-term effects and HAS.
