Depression has become a very common public health problem worldwide, and its incidence is increasing year by year.At present, antidepressant treatment is mainly based on western medicine, with a single action mechanism, uneven efficacy, strong dependence and great side effects. In contrast, TCM has many advantages in the treatment of depression, such as the overall concept, syndrome differentiation and treatment, less side effects, multiple treatment approaches, multiple action targets, and relatively economic benefits. Four reverse dispersion is a commonly used clinical prescription for the treatment of depression, first contained in Zhang Zhongjing's "Theory on typhoid fever", as the basic prescription of modern treatment of depression. This paper summarizes the antidepressant effect of bupleurum and white peony root monoflavor drug, bupleurum-white peony root drug pair, and four reverse dispersion compound, which provides the direction and ideas for the future research of traditional Chinese medicine compound.
