We fabricated organic–inorganic lead chloride-based compounds with an ether diamine: (NH3C2H4OC2H4OC2H4NH3)PbCl4 (EDBEPbCl4), (NH3C3H6OC4H8OC3H6NH3)PbCl4 (BBEPbCl4), and (NH3C3H6OC2H4OC2H4OC3H6NH3)PbCl4 (DGBEPbCl4). After the fabrication of these crystals, their luminescence characteristics were investigated. A broadband emission that might be derived from self-trapped excitons (STEs) was detected, and photoluminescence quantum yields of these crystals were 16 % (EDBEPbCl4), 2.9 % (BBEPbCl4), and 2.7 % (DGBEPbCl4). In the scintillation spectra, a broadband peak was also observed from the fabricated crystals, and they exhibited a decay time of 12 ns (EDBEPbCl4), 11 ns (BBEPbCl4), and 11 ns (DGBEPbCl4) in scintillation. Further, their pulse height spectra under alpha-ray were recorded using 241Am. The highest light yield was observed from EDBEPbCl4 (2000 photons/5.5 MeV-α) and its light yield was higher than that of a zinc oxide single crystal.
