In modern obstetrics it is possible to regulate pain perception during childbirth. There are methods of both drug and non-drug pain relief during childbirth. Up to 25–30 % of women characterize labor pain as severe and excessive. Adequate labor pain relief provides psychological comfort and eliminates stress caused by pain. After labor pain, many women experience depression, decide to terminate the next pregnancy, or (up to 30 %) request a caesarean section without medical indications. Pain relief during labor is one of the priorities in obstetric care.
