Practices of Developing the Space of the Memorial Landscape as an Element of the Symbolic Capital of Arkaim

At the present stage of Russian history, when there are large migration flows of people from the regions to the capital cities, it is important to increase the connection of people with their native land, to form historical, cultural and national memory. One means of this could be the creation of symbolic capital of the territory. Asignificant element of the symbolic capital of the Chelyabinsk region is the Chelyabinsk State Historical and Archaeological Museum-Reserve “Arkaim”. Thearticle presents the practices of developing the memorial landscape and their role in the formation of the symbolic capital of the archaeological complex. Arkaim is considered as an element of the symbolic capital of the Chelyabinsk region and a territory that itself has symbolic capital. The practices of exploration of the space of Arkaim by its visitors, which were identified from the notes of observers, are compared with the elements of symbolic capital identified by the author of the article in previous studies. The results of the comparison are characterized by discrepancies in the elements of the symbolic capital of the archaeological site, which are formed by the management of the reserve on the one hand and visitors to Arkaim on the other. The duality of the image of Arkaim and the elements of its symbolic capital is revealed.
