Ti-oxide cluster-based metal–organic frameworks have shown great potential to fabricate multifunctional photocatalysts, but their catalytic activities often suffered from narrow light absorption and inefficient photogenerated charge separation. Herein, a solvent-assisted ligand exchange method was applied to functionalize MIL-125(Ti) with pyrene. Benefitting from the low energy triplet state of pyrene and efficient intersystem charge transfer between photosensitizers and Ti-oxide clusters, the functionalized MIL-125(Ti) showed enhancing visible-light adsorption and high photoactivity to give reactive oxygen species (•O2– and 1O2), which can be employed as a visible-light-driven photocatalyst for tetracycline degradation and aerobic oxidation of sulfides.
