Cover Feature: A GFP Inspired 8‐Methoxyquinoline–Derived Fluorescent Molecular Sensor for the Detection of Zn²⁺ by Two–Photon Microscopy (Chem. Eur. J. 31/2024)

A novel fluorescent probe for visualizing Zn2+ in biological samples through microscopy has been designed. The probe was inspired by the chromophore of the green fluorescent protein, which was extended with an 8-methoxyquinoline ionophore. A probe–Zn2+ complex is shown glowing green inside a cell, lighting up the scene and illustrating how the sensor indicates the presence of the ion.
