This study explores the transition from nursing students (NS) to newly qualified nurses (NQNs), a role which is known for its rewarding yet demanding nature. NQNs often face a “reality shock”, as the increased demands of the profession can be unexpected. This research aims to delve into the lived experiences of NQNs, conduct a comprehensive global literature review, determine the optimal research methodology, and provide recommendations for nursing practice, education, and research. Utilising qualitative interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA), the study conducted individual interviews with eight NQNs who graduated in 2021. The findings revealed four superordinate themes, encompassing positive and negative aspects of the transition, the impact of the nursing profession role, and reflections on NS days. The study underscores the need for support from healthcare and educational organisations during this critical period, offering identified strategies and recommendations for NQNs.
