In mass concrete, heat generated from cement hydration process produces high temperatures and due to its large volume and poor thermal conductivity, the heat evolved may not dissipate properly which can lead to cracking.Despite careful design, numerous failures have been recently reported in the construction industry which affects the structural integrity and design of concrete structures. To study the effect of high temperature in mass concrete, Finite Element Analysis (FEA) was utilized to predict the temperature distribution which will quantify the thermal stress in concrete. To validate the results obtained in the FEA Model, two different concrete mixes were produced, and each design mix was used to create three concrete cubes and cast with dimensions of 0.5m x 0.5m x 0.5m (0.125m³ ).K-type thermocouples measured the temperature distribution in the concrete cubes and based on the results, the FEA simulation and experimental results matched well and showed good agreement in terms of temperature prediction.Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS) was also used to determine the cracking probability by the stress-strength ratio.Utilization of FEA and MCS helps this engineering approach solve a wide range of complex problems, which can help engineers take special measures in design and construction.
