Case report demonstrates feasibility and safety of right hemicolectomy using a robotic platform in a surgical patient, highlighting technical viability for early adopters.
Background Robotic surgery has gained worldwide acceptance over the past decade, with several studies showing that this technique is safe and feasible. Method We describe the first robot-assisted right hemicolectomy performed with the new HugoTM RAS (Robotic assisted surgery) (Medtronic®, Minneapolis, MN, USA) in Spain. Results The surgical procedures were completed without conversion. No intraoperative complications or technical failures of the system were recorded. The operative time was 200 minutes, the docking time was five minutes, and the length of hospital stay was eight days. Conclusion Right hemicolectomy with the HugoTM RAS system is safe and feasible. This experience provides relevant data that may assist early adopters of this surgical platform.
