The article presents the results of substantiation of measures to increase soil fertility in the Prokhladnensky municipal district of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic. An assessment of the nutritional regime of the soil at the end of August, a month after plant and post-harvest residues of winter crops were added to the soil, indicates that under favorable moisture supply conditions, the introduction of a compensatory dose of nitrogen fertilizers for their decomposition had a positive effect on the nitrogen regime of the soil. Also, the use of crop residues in crop rotation creates conditions for stabilizing the previously potential soil fertility.
