Digital literacy is gradually becoming a key consideration in contemporary society because of its integration into daily socioeconomic activities. However, China's digital literacy rate is still low in comparison to equivalent economies like USA. This leads to Chinese students being disadvantaged in the globe. Therefore, this research investigates interventions that Chinese applied universities could take to support acquisition and mastery of digital skills among the Chinese students. Focus is placed on the USA which has a comparative economic size as China and USA has a digital literacy rate at 86 % which is above global average level of 77 %. Through secondary qualitative analysis, it emerges that the USA has put in place consistent investment into the digital infrastructure across the country which supports their learning institutions' ability to integrate digital technology in their learning sphere. Therefore, it is recommended that the Chinese applied universities should take a short-term intervention approach by dedicating their development capital towards improving their digital infrastructure, incorporating digital technology into courses, and build digital competencies. In the long-term scenario, it is vital that the Chinese government dedicates funding to improving digital infrastructure so that digital technology can be incorporated at earlier levels of learning.
