In search of leadership! Research on school leaders work and action. The work of principals and the pedagogical leadership need to be given a creative focus in the research that is at the forefront. The research can be innovative by problematizing leadership in complex environments, of which schools are an example? One can reflect on who leads whom? And what kind of leadership is exercised by pupils, teachers and parents? It should also be noted that schools are a special type of organization that requires a particular kind of understanding. And for these questions and reflections, research needs to use theories and methods that are interested in/suitable for the study of complex organizations and not only based on traditional theories taken from the business world. A practice-based approach is probably a fruitful way to approach the processes and dynamics that take place in schools where the principal's work is to be carried out.Principals' leadership is carried out in a complex context where the results of observational studies illustrate this, but the results can also be used to discover "leadership". The internal environment of schools also exhibits strange phenomena such as that there is both an interaction and at the same time a disconnection between different actors (cultures) as a result of the organization of the schools and the nature of the work. The leadership of principals is waiting, so to speak, to be discovered, we should search further.
