The primary objective of the present research was to focus on the phase transformation behavior of Cr-Mo-V steels with different levels of nitrogen under gentle tempering treatment conditions. The microstructural analysis showed that, regardless of the nitrogen content, the matrix of the hot work tool steels was composed of tempered martensite with a hierarchical structure and numerous precipitation particles. Furthermore, based on the microhardness test results, a larger secondary hardening phenomenon was found in the samples with low nitrogen content.
