This paper proposes a hybrid method to synthesis concentric ring arrays. A hybrid invasive weed optimization (IWO) and convex optimization is used to optimize a concentric continuous current ring (CCCR) array. Here, IWO is used to obtain the optimal ring radii for the continuous current rings, and convex optimization is utilized to optimize the excitation of each ring. The value of the peak sidelobe level (PSLL) is used as the fitness function for the IWO optimization algorithm. After that, a deterministic technique is used to replace each current ring by a ring of discrete antennas. Simulations were conducted, and the results were compared to a stochastic optimization technique and an algorithm based on convex optimization. The results showed that the proposed algorithm can synthesize concentric ring arrays with lower PSLL and less elements.
