The pain rate was measured using a numeric range scale (NRS) from 0-10 at eight different time points. We divided the pain scores into three groups: mild 0-3, moderate 4-6, and severe 7-10. We considered each step successfully performed if the reported pain during the steps was mild. RESULTS: The median NRS reported for each timepoint is shown in the Table. No procedure needed a switch to other forms of anesthesia. No perioperative and procedure-related complications to the use of SC were reported. The rate of success was >80% in all the measured steps. In the patients who experienced moderate and severe pain, an increase in EV sedation (1 mg midazolam +/- 10 mg pethidine) was sufficient to complete the procedure. CONCLUSIONS: This multicenter series demonstrates that transurethral intraprostatic anesthesia through SC can control pain during Rezum treatment and iTIND. Our data suggest the procedure is feasible, safe and well-tolerated. According to our preliminary data and experience, TUIA allows a further step towards micro-invasiveness.
