The article aims to clarify the progress of negotiations between the delegation of the Zaporozhian Host and the tsar government, which took place in Moscow in the autumn of 1665. To reconstruct the final stage of the discussion of the new treaty the author draws on the content of two drafts of the text he had found (in the archives). It allowed him to suggest that after the hetman and starshyna submitted articles for approval by the tsar, not only tsar’s resolutions were imposed, but also some changes were made directly to the text of the articles. The author also concluded that the most active participants in the negotiations on the Moscow side were P. M. Saltykov, D. M. Bashmakov and I. Mikhailov.
