The widespread application of networking technology, especially VPN technology, enables access intranet resources through the public network everywhere and anytime. This enables home or mobile work. The performance of IPSec VPN affects the functionality of network access. This paper designs a test bed to test the performance of IPSec VPN. The paper elaborates on performance testing methods for using different IPSec encryption and authentication algorithms, as well as different buffer sizes, in real network environments. Then, through the analysis of test data, the paper found that different combinations of encryption and authentication algorithms have different impacts on performance, and the size of the buffer directly affects throughput and response time. Finally, the paper provides recommendations for deploying and configuring IPSec VPN in practice.
