The dc microgrid consists of several dc-dc converters connected together, operating in parallel and requires accurate control for its smooth operation. Maintaining accurate current sharing between the parallel connected converters in the grid is a challenging issue. The voltage regulation at the grid should also be maintained within permissible limits. Droop control method is one of the most widely used techniques for power flow control in parallel connected systems. However, the main demerit of conventional droop control is that it suffers from a compromise between current sharing accuracy and voltage regulation requirements. Any mismatch in the individual converter output voltages results in circulating currents between the converters which increases the losses and reduces the efficiency. This paper proposes an improved droop control method for accurate load sharing among parallel connected dc-dc converters and it limits the circulating current also. The control algorithm and detailed analysis is explained for two parallel connected boost converters. The effectiveness of the proposed droop control method is verified with the help of simulations done in MATLAB Simulink.
