As the world transitions towards a more sustainable future, harnessing solar energy has emerged as a crucial avenue for reducing our reliance on traditional power sources. This paper explores the benefits of solar chargers coupled with maximum power point Tracking (MPPT) solar charge controllers, highlighting their combined potential to optimize energy conversion and storage. This paper presents the design and implementation of a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) solar charge controller utilizing a PIC micro-controller. The perturb and observe (P and O) algorithm MPPT technology is employed to address the inefficiency arising from the higher voltage produced by most solar panels compared to what is required for charging a 12 V battery. Typically, a 12 V charging panel generates a 16 to 18 Volt output, but only around 14.6 Volts is needed to charge most 12 V batteries, resulting in significant voltage wastage. The application of MPPT charging technology aims to convert this excess voltage into current, thereby enhancing overall charging efficiency in tandem with solar chargers.
