This simulation reports interaction effects in variable speed compressors, indicating insights into gas dynamics.
A positive displacement compressor exhibits several physical phenomena during each cycle of its operation. A complete mathematical model should consider each of those phenomena and the interactions among them. In this study, a computer simulation model was developed for a variable speed rolling piston rotary compressor. The mathematical simulation includes a thermodynamic model of the cylinder refrigerant gas based on the principles of conservation of energy and mass, a one-dimensional unsteady compressible flow model to study the intake tuning, and a linear discharge gas pulsation model based upon Helmholtz resonator approach. Both predicted results and experimental data are presented.
