Dielectric resonators are a good candidate for impedance matching at higher frequencies. This article comes up with a simple DRA-based microstrip patchless antenna for UWB applications. The proposed antenna design includes a step-microstrip feed and a defective ground structure using a FR4 substrate with dimensions of 20 mm × 20 mm × 5.67 mm. An alumina (Al2 O3) Dielectric Resonator (DR) in cylindrical shape has been positioned at the top. The suggested antenna design was assessed by S-parameters, VSWR, radiation pattern, and surface current density. The gain of the suggested antenna is 3.3 dBi, which is considerably low. At lower frequency, antenna's ground plane help achieve smooth radiation patterns. Whereas at higher frequencies higher order modes get activated in the dielectric resonator, causing visible radiation nulls. The impedance bandwidth of simulated antenna is 102.6 % and shows a reasonable stipulation between measured and simulated results.
