The retransmission timeout (RTO) algorithm predicts the packet transmission duration between end-to-end devices. The faulty RTO timeout occurrence in vehicular links tumbles timer predictions during delayed acknowledgment (ACK) due to impulsive round-trip time (RTT) delay. The modified timer projection RTO (MTP-RTO) implementation uses a novel approach incorporating dynamic weights and additional timer variables that significantly reduce faulty timeouts. The MTP-RTO forecasting algorithm outperforms contemporary RTO approaches in in-vehicle networks by achieving the best RTO-RTT deviation, improving transmission efficiency and latency performance.
