Following a large disturbance in the power system, the voltage often experiences a temporary drop, simultaneously triggering a large number of harmonic components. This phenomenon can lead to commutation failure and even direct current blocking, threating the system stability and safety. To accurately predict and rapidly prevent commutation failure, it is crucial to analyze the impact of the time-varying harmonics on the commutation process. Based on wideband measurement data and commutation area (CA) theory, this paper quantitatively analyzes the impact of harmonics on the commutation area under normal operation condition and fault condition. The results indicate that the calculation of commutation area considering time-varying harmonic effects can more accurately reflect the commutation area.
