In the article, the author analyzes doctrinal approaches to the problems of penitentiary crime, as well as its provision, the factors that form threats to the security of both individual correctional institutions and the penal system as a whole, linking them with the real picture and criminological characteristics of penitentiary crime, concluding that the distortion of data on the real state of crime In the penal system, a number of other factors have a direct impact on the national security of the Russian Federation.
