As more renewable energy sources join the power grid, the electric industry is dealing with problems like system inertia. However, using battery energy storage systems (BESS) helps address stability issues. This paper focused on low inertia power systems and proposed a simulation-based methodology for sizing FFR maximum power to improve frequency response and mainly Nadir. The proposed approach was evaluated in a simplified power system in Cyprus, considering a variety of random power plant dispatch, PV generation, wind generation, and load consumption scenarios. DIgSILENT PowerFactory and Python programming language is used for developing, testing, and analyzing the system model. The results verified the fast model convergence and quite accurate results.
