Although inhaled glucocorticoids (ICS) are highly effective in asthma, they provide much less clinical benefit in COPD, with only 10% of COPD patients showing clinical response. The variability of response to treatment with ICS may be related to genetic variations. Furthermore, various single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) have been identified in the glucocorticoid-induced transcript 1 (GLCCI1) gene and the related co-chaperone FKBP5 gene. The aim of our study was to investigate whether common variants of the aforementioned genes are associated with COPD phenotypes, lung function and ICS efficacy.
