Lipids extracted were isolated from Arctoscopus japonicus eggs. A. japonicus lipids combined with PEG6000 (AJ-PEG) were investigated immune-enhancing biological activities in cyclophsphamide (CY)-induced immunosuppressed mice. CY-treated mice were orally administrated with different concentrations of AJ-PEG (25-100 mg/kg BW). In CY-treated mice, the results showed that administration of AJ-PEG significantly increased spleen index. The proliferation of splenic lymphocyte and natural killer (NK) activity was also stimulated by AJ-PEG. The expression of immune-associated cytokines such as IL-1β, IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, TNF-α, and IFN-γ as well as TLR-4 exptression was upregulated in splenic lymphocytes. Moreover, AJ-PEG also significantly increased the expression of CD4+ and CD8+ splenic T lymphocytes. In peritoneal macrophages, the oral administration of AJ-PEG improved proliferation, NO production, and phagocytosis. The mRNA expression of iNOS and COX-2, as well as cytokinfes such as IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α were upregulated by AJ-PEG. Therefore, these results indicate that AJ-PEG can be used as a potent immunomodulatory agent under the immune-suppressive conditions in the animal moder.
