Self-sensing concrete utilizes the electrical properties of concrete to predict the stress or deformation occurring within the material itself.. This study aims to provide an overview of the general properties as well as the factors influencing the electrical properties of self-sensing concrete. Based on analyses from previous studies, this study indicates that the electrical properties, specifically the electrical resistance, of concrete change with variations in the stress or strain. However, this change is influenced by numerous complex factors and can be categorized into three groups: (i) material composition and fabrication methods, (ii) specimen configuration and measurement conditions, and (iii) loading conditions and environment. Based on these principles, current applications of self-sensing concrete are primarily implemented in structural health monitoring, infrastructure management, and traffic surveillance.
